Edmonton Weekend Guide: February 16-20

The long weekend is here; you're going to need your parka, skates, $20 for a swap, and wine glass. Enjoy!

Fashion Festival
Metropolis
What: A winter wonderland transforms into a fashion oasis
Why: Trunk shows, fashion shows, jewelry-making workshops and the finest handmade wares for sale at the Handmade Mafia Local Market.
Where: Sir Winston Churchill Square
When: Friday, February 10 to Sunday, February 12. Full schedule here.

Clothing Swap
Swapopolis
What: A giant clothing swap. Bring $20; get a bag; fill it with new-to-you clothes.
Why: For weeks, stores have been collecting gently worn, fashionable clothing for this giant swap.
Where: The Community Centre at Metropolis (Churchill Square)
When: Friday, February 17 from7-9pm. (Doors open at 5:30pm – you can shop the Handmade Mafia while you wait)

The Parka Patio
Latitude 53
What: Remember the magic of summer patio? Get ready to brave winter with a heated patio, DJs, warm drinks, and food from Elm Café, Upper Crust Café and The Bothy.
Why: Inside the gallery will be hosting a silent auction featuring Edmonton artists.
Where: Latitude 53 (10248 106 Street). Tickets $12.
When: Saturday, February 18, 8pm-late

The Glass Slipper
Cinderella - Alberta Ballet
What: Beautifully designed costumes, elegant dancing in the retelling of a well-known story.
Why: The Prince’s ball has never been so enchanting, glittery and magical.
Where: Jubilee Auditorium (11455 87 Avenue)
When: Friday, February 17 & Saturday, February 18. Evening performances at 7:30pm.

Lace Up
Silver Skate Festival
What: Edmonton’s longest running winter festival.
Why: Skating marathons, fire sculpture installations, figure skating demonstrations, orienteering, and fanciful nights of music, performances and lights.
Where: Hawrelak Park
When: Friday, February 17 – Monday, February 20. Full schedule.

Glass Half-Full
Winefest
What: Sample over 200 local and international wines, port, sparkling and dessert wines.
Why: All this sipping is included in the price of your ticket! Oh, and did we mention hors d'oeuvres, including gourmet cheeses, olives, chocolates and scrumptious samples from the Shaw Conference Centre.
Where: Shaw Conference Centre. Tickets $63-$75.
When: Friday, February 17 – Saturday, February 18. Full Schedule.

Your Family in Art
Qualico Family Day at the Art Gallery of Alberta
What:
Participate in hands-on art activities like Cubist Collage Masks and family postcards.
Why:
